My New Year Resolution is to try and make this world a little better place. I got an idea a while back for an improved Toyota Prius Hybrid option and I submitted it as part of Toyota's promotional competition. If you have time, take a look at the ideas other people sent in and please vote for mine. I think it has real merit and worth your consideration. (MY COMPETITORS ARE STILL A FEW VOTES AHEAD OF ME.) Summary: Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive® equipped with an inverter supplies safe, reliable, emergency 120 volt AC power for families during winter power outages and after storms.
Operation: An auxiliary power switch position is added to the ignition switch which activates an on board 1000 watt inverter running off the Prius battery pack. This will supply power to an external 120 volt AC outlet. An extension cord may be then connected to operate essential electrical devices within the home. When the Prius battery pack needs recharging, the engine automatically starts and cycles on and off, keeping it full. As fuel gauge reaches one or two gallons remaining, the horn emits a short beep to remind the owner it is time to refuel. Safety Feature: Must include interlock to prevent operation within closed garage space, utilizing an on board CO monitor or possibly Advanced Parking Guidance System technology.
